The best internet speed for working or school from home depends on what kind of work you do. If you frequently download and upload large files, internet speeds of at least 40 Mbps are recommended. Your speed will also be affected by the number of devices in use, so plan on needing more speed if you have more than 3 connected devices.

+ What is streaming?

Streaming refers to any media content - live or recorded - delivered to computers and mobile devices via the internet and played back in real time. Podcasts, webcasts, movies, TV shows and music videos are common forms of streaming content. Streaming is the technology of transmitting audio and video files in a continuous flow over a wired or wireless internet connection.

Examples of video streaming services include Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, YouTube, Sling, Amazon Prime, DirecTV Now, Locast, Disney + and Voot.

+ How much internet speed do I need for streaming?

In general, to stream most videos in standard definition, you’ll need internet speeds of at least 3 Mbps. You need at least 25-40 Mbps or more for 4K streaming video on your computer or Ultra HD enabled devices, or when using multiple devices.

+ What speed can I expect with GigaNet 1000?

You can expect to see speeds of 850-950 Mbps and higher with most online speed tests, which is much faster than any other local provider! Always remember that online speed tests are a short, one-time event and do not account for bursts of speed or actual speed over the course of multiple internet activities. A speed test only measures the brief, specific internet event to the device being tested. It does not account for the total bandwidth being delivered to your home or used in multiple simultaneous internet transactions from one or multiple devices. The total bandwidth or speed delivered to the home will be higher than a single speed test to a single device.

Keep in mind that device manufacturers often list a device's theoretical speed, which may be difficult to achieve. Speed can be affected by a number of additional factors, including your connection type, the number of devices in use, the age of your device, site traffic, content provider server capacity and internal network factors.

+ Can I get super-fast upload speeds too?

Yes! Cloud computing is now commonplace. Having the ability to quicky upload your data is critical. We have plans that include equal upload and download speeds as well as traditional plans. For more information click here.

+ What is the difference between 5G mobile and 5G Wi-Fi?

5G mobile has nothing to do with Wi-Fi. It is used for cellular connections. Cellular labels its generations with "G" numbers. The 5G in 5G mobile stands for "fifth generation", which means it is the fifth generation of the cellular standard. It is designed to be much faster than its predecessor, 4G LTE.

Wi-Fi 5G is the 5 GHz Wi-Fi router radio band or frequency spectrum. This frequency offers dramatically faster speeds than the original 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but over a much shorter range.

+ Do you have data caps?

No! Our customers are welcome to transfer as much data as they like.

+ Will I share a network with my neighbors?

No! Correct Cable Communications provides a dedicated network connection to each customer’s router, unlike other companies that use a shared network design.

+ Why does my internet speed slow down when using a VPN service?

Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that is used for security; however, it degrades the speed of the internet to a certain level. This reduction in speed is due to the encryption process of your internet data which a VPN implements to make everything safe and secure.

+ Can DNS affect my internet speed?

Although Domain Name System (DNS) is not directly related to your internet speed, it can influence how fast an individual webpage appears on your computer. Once a connection has been established though, it should not affect download speeds. If you want to amend your router's DNS servers, however, this can help improve your overall speed. Many apps are available to help you find the best server for your router or computer. We recommend using one of the DNS providers listed below:

OpenDNS

  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220

Google

  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4

CloudFlare

  • 1.1.1.1
  • 1.0.0.1

Quad9

  • 9.9.9.9
